The Nisshin OilliO Group Basic Procurement Policy

We, The Nisshin OilliO Group, consider it our mission to help make people happy and to continuously contribute to socio-economic growth, pursuing “good flavor, health and beauty” based on the food-related technology that we have built up over the years—particularly with regards to vegetable oil.

Going forward, initiatives that involve not only our group, but the entire supply chain are vital to develop and achieve a sustainable society. Thus we have formulated “The Nisshin OilliO Group Basic Procurement Policy”. As business partners, we ask for the understanding of all our suppliers and request your cooperation in implementing these initiatives into your business activities.

The Nisshin OilliO Group Basic Procurement Policy

1. Compliance and Fair Business Practices

We will comply with domestic and international laws and social ethics with regards to our procurement activities. And we will conduct appropriate procurement activities by always maintaining fair and equal stance with suppliers. Moreover, we will not accept any provision of personal benefits or conveniences.

2. Quality and Safety Standards

Giving top priority to safety, security and stable supply, we will procure goods and services of highest quality by taking into account the perspectives of sustainability and traceability.

3. Respect for Fundamental Human Rights

We respect standards and ideas related to international human rights, working conditions and occupational safety and health. We will work to eliminate and eradicate human rights violations such as forced labor, child labor, discrimination and harassment from our supply chain for procuring goods and services.

4. Consideration for the Environment

In our procurement activities, we will comply with laws and our own internal standards that concern the environment. We will also work to protect natural resources and lessen the burden on the environment in the selection and procurement of goods and services.

5. Protection of Confidential and Personal Information

We are well aware of the importance of the confidential and personal information we acquire in the course of our procurement activities. Therefore, we will abide by the laws and our own internal standards to appropriately use, manage and safeguard the information.

6. Strengthening Partner Relationships

We build relationships of trust with our suppliers based on mutual understanding, and work to maintain and strengthen them as we seek to sustain mutual growth.

Note: This procurement policy applies to all of the raw materials and services used by The Nisshin OilliO Group, Ltd., and our group companies.

Palm Oil Sourcing Policy

Palm Oil Sourcing Policy

The Nisshin OilliO Group has been continuously committed to providing sustainable palm oil catering to customers’ needs. Moving forward, we plan to continue these efforts by advancing survey through our supply chain and expanding business with suppliers who focus on sustainability. We aim to have a sustainable palm oil sourcing framework in place by 2020.

Further, we are committed to working towards a traceable and transparent palm oil supply chain which complies with No Deforestation, No Peat and No Exploitation (NDPE) commitments as follows:

  • Not developing high carbon stock (HCS) forest or high conservation value (HCV) areas for new plantings;
  • Not newly developing peatland regardless of the depth of development but promoting the best management practices for existing oil palm plantations on peat soils;
  • Not using fire in land preparation including for planting and replanting, and not burning of wastes;
  • Identifying and reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions even in existing operations;
  • Not exploiting rights of indigenous people or local communities, and respecting the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) to operate on lands on which they hold legal, communal or customary rights;
  • Complying with all relevant laws in relation to discrimination ranging from sexual orientation, gender, religion, race, disability, age, political affiliation, marital status and national origin;
  • Complying with laws in respective countries in terms of freedom of association and right to bargain collectively for employees;
  • Eliminating all forms of illegal, forced, bonded and child labor;
  • Following responsible recruitment practices for all labor including migrant, contract and temporary workers;
  • Preventing and prohibiting corruption including extortion and bribery;
  • Complying with all laws & regulations applicable in respective countries where having business activities; besides, pursuing the way to honor principles of international human rights if any contradiction arises between globally recognized human rights and the laws of a country or region.
Traceability

To ensure that our upstream suppliers uphold our commitments to NDPE, we will collaborate with our first-hand suppliers and aim to establish our supply chains organizing traceability identifying the mills and plantations. In the course of this action, we will offer smallholders to join our supply chains.

Transparency and Reporting

We commit to periodic reporting on the implementation and progress concerning sustainability policy through continued engagement with national and international stakeholders in our palm oil supply chain.

Grievance Procedure

We will establish a grievance procedure to enable all stakeholders to raise grievances related to our palm oil supply chain. The procedure will include reporting on grievances within our supply chain, action plans on grievance resolution, or communications with stakeholders on updates on the grievances.
